"It's a little different but then, I enjoy sprinting and just move inside - I'm not defending that much," he added.

"I tell my centre-back 'I'm not hanging back' and that I'm just going to continue running.

"That movement is what I'm seeking. It's enjoyable."

Along with the forward's 6 scores on debut, Ireland has scored 8 in 3 games for Wythenshawe, while George Boyd hit 5 on his debut appearance and Joleon Lescott, a centre-half by trade, scored a hat-trick in one match as a striker.

One opponent, 38, who plays on the wing for the opposition, came up against former Latics defender Figueroa on the weekend - and had to tell his young boy who Emile Heskey was.

"The news was going round like a rumor they had these ex-Premier League stars," said the player.

"I felt I was a little starstruck facing Figueroa to be honest.

"Also Emile [Heskey] came on and he's has over 60 England caps.

"Our side competed well for a solid twenty minutes but then we had a player sent off and it was hard.

"We literally haven't stopped chatting about it - I was calling my mother and brother on the journey home.

"They were all really nice, shaking our hands after the game - it was like playing a group of normal guys.

"Now we can't wait for the second fixture."
