Cars in Germany's City Discovered Marked with Swastikas in Human Blood, Police Report

Officers reported they were contacted by a resident who found a vehicle in Hanau smeared with reddish liquid

Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.

Cars, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.

Officers report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.

The fluid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.

Officers then discovered multiple other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials say initial examinations show the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; investigators are not yet aware of any physical harm in connection with the event," they stated.

Municipal representatives said they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for information.

A high-ranking representative said the attack left him stunned and had to be resolved rapidly.

"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in 2020.
